Why the delay in launch?
The license has been received, but Starlink still has to prepare the ground infrastructure, acquire spectrum, and complete the security standards check. According to a Reuters report, Starlink services can start in India by early 2025.
Why is Starlink better?
Starlink does not rely on ground-based infrastructure like fiber optic. Its service is provided through a network of thousands of small satellites, which connect via laser. Starlink partnership in India
Jio has tied up with Starlink and plans to sell its devices from its retail stores. Airtel is also partnering with Starlink to provide internet in remote areas. In India, Starlink is in direct competition with BSNL "Direct to Device". The company is working on a service that will provide internet service directly on Android devices by connecting satellite and mobile network. This technology can solve the problem of mobile connectivity in remote areas.
