If your phone is lost or stolen, follow these steps; this will increase the chances of finding your smartphone:
Step 1: Get a duplicate SIM. Go to your telecom service provider (Airtel/Jio/Vi/BSNL/Others) and request a duplicate SIM card with the same number.
Step 2: File a police complaint. Register an FIR about the lost or stolen phone at your nearest police station. Now you can visit the Sanchar Sathi portal and block your device.
Step 3: Register on the Sanchar Sathi portal. For this, follow the steps given below:
1. Visit the official website: https://www.ceir.gov.in
2. Click on “Block Stolen/Lost Mobile”
3. Enter details of the lost phone such as IMEI number, police complaint number, address linked with Aadhaar, and an alternate contact number.
Once registered, the system notifies the concerned department, cybercrime teams, and telecom providers across the country.
It can take some time.
If your phone is turned on and connected to the network, whether it is the same SIM or a new one, the system sends an alert and tries to trace the new location or user of your smartphone. This process can take some time.
It is worth noting that the sooner you report your phone missing, the sooner you are likely to find it. C-DOT says that early registration helps the system track the phone before it is lost or smuggled.
