Shocking Revelation! 1 in 4 Users is Using This AI Chatbot for Medical Advice – Find Out Why
A new report from OpenAI reveals that a large number of people worldwide are now turning to ChatGPT for healthcare-related questions.
OpenAI ChatGPT: A new report from OpenAI reveals that a large number of people worldwide are now turning to ChatGPT for healthcare-related questions. According to the report, approximately 40 million users are using this AI chatbot every week for medical and health-related information. This means that roughly one in four users is relying on AI for some form of health support.
Increased Healthcare Inquiries After GPT-5
The report also indicates a sharp increase in healthcare-related questions after the launch of the GPT-5 model. Topics related to health insurance were particularly popular. These included information on comparing plans, understanding costs, claims, and billing processes, eligibility, registration, and coverage.
Millions of Questions on Health Insurance Every Week
According to OpenAI, approximately 2 million messages per week are related to health insurance questions alone. Overall, these questions account for about 5 percent of global ChatGPT users. The data shows that between 1.6 and 1.9 million messages per week are sent specifically for insurance-related queries.
More Questions from Rural Areas
The report also highlights that a significant portion of health insurance and medical information questions are coming from rural and underserved areas where healthcare facilities are limited. Understanding medical terminology and procedures is often difficult for people in these areas, making AI a valuable tool for them.
Symptoms, Terms, and Treatment Information are the Reasons
According to the survey, over 55 percent of people ask ChatGPT questions to understand their symptoms. 48 percent of users rely on AI to understand the meaning of medical terms. Additionally, 44 percent are using the chatbot to understand potential treatment options. AI is bridging the gap between doctors and patients.
OpenAI believes that AI tools like ChatGPT are proving particularly helpful in areas where there is a shortage of doctors and medical facilities. This technology is, to some extent, reducing the distance between people and the healthcare system.
Trust is necessary, but caution is also essential.
However, the report also raises concerns that over-reliance on AI can be risky. AI can sometimes provide incorrect or incomplete information, a phenomenon known as AI hallucination. Therefore, in serious health matters, it is crucial to consult a specialist doctor or healthcare professional instead of relying solely on AI.
