Security Bug: Dangerous security bug found in WhatsApp and Apple, update immediately to avoid it..
WhatsApp and Apple have released a major security update. It was reported that Zero-Click Vulnerability has been seen on both platforms. Through this bug, hackers could access the users' devices without clicking any link or opening any file. But the good thing is that both companies have fixed this flaw in time.
WhatsApp's CVE-2025-43300 bug
WhatsApp said in its security advisory that the CVE-2025-43300 bug may have been used in sophisticated attacks on some selected users.
This bug was in WhatsApp iOS (before v2.25.21.73), WhatsApp Business iOS (before v2.25.21.78), and WhatsApp Mac (before v2.25.21.78) versions.
According to Meta, this bug was patched a few weeks ago, and notifications have been sent to more than 200 users about it.
Apple's CVE-2025-55177 bug
Apple has also informed about fixing a similar bug, CVE-2025-55177. According to the company, processing a malicious image file could lead to memory corruption. According to reports, this flaw was also used in high-level spyware attacks, and this has especially affected iPhone users.
How was the bug detected?
Donncha O Cearbhaill of Amnesty International Security Lab posted on X that this attack is part of an advanced spyware campaign. Initial investigation revealed that both iPhone and Android users were targeted in the last 90 days. Many of these users were also civil society activists.
Why is Zero-Click Vulnerability dangerous?
Zero-click attacks are considered to be the most dangerous attacks in the cyber world. In this, the user does not need to click any link or open any file. The hacker can directly enter the system and steal data. It is very difficult to prevent such attacks because the user does not have the option to take any preventive action.
What should users do?
Immediately update your WhatsApp and iOS device to the latest version. Avoid unknown links and files, even though this Zero-Click bug has now been fixed. Keep installing security patch updates from time to time. Keep apps and software updated.
