Schools and colleges in this state will no longer be able to take children on picnics, the government has banned it.

Now schools and colleges in Jammu and Kashmir will not be able to take their children on picnics on holidays. The Education Minister has issued an order and banned it.

You must have often seen that schools or colleges take their students on picnic tours during weekends or holidays. Children enjoy it a lot and happily talk about it to their friends. But now the Omar government has put a stop to this picnic. The Omar Abdullah government of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday banned picnics by schools and colleges during weekends and holidays in the state.

Why was this decision taken?

Education Minister Sakina Itoo has banned it citing the safety of students. She examined the standard operating procedures and protocols for organizing picnics by all schools and colleges in the state and then issued strict orders to impose a complete ban on picnics on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. The minister took this decision because recently a college bus overturned in Kupwara and 2 children died and many were injured in the accident.

The Education Minister held a meeting

The Education Minister held a meeting to review the existing traffic rules to increase the safety of students. In this meeting, she expressed displeasure over the increasing accidents and asked the Transport Department and Police to run a campaign against overspeeding and drunk driving with special attention on students. Let us tell you that on April 12, 2 students of Government Degree College Sogam were killed and 21 were injured when the bus overturned while going for a picnic in Kupwara district.

Documents of all school and college buses will be checked

Education Minister Sakina also talked about many aspects of traffic rules like validity of driving license, fitness certificate and documents of college and school buses and installation of CCTV cameras and fire safety equipment in them. The minister gave strict instructions to install CCTV cameras in all government and private buses carrying school children. The minister also stressed on regular checking of all college and school buses regarding fitness and other aspects. He also asked the directors of the colleges to conduct fresh driving tests of all college bus drivers. Further, he directed the Additional Chief Secretary of Education to conduct a thorough departmental inquiry regarding the recent accident.
