Trai Alert: Fraud on mobile calls is continuing. Every day we read in media reports that people are being fooled on calls and money is being extorted from them. The caller introduces himself as an officer of TRAI. He tells the other person that his number is involved in fraud. The number will be disconnected. People are demanding money to not do this. Many people are suffering financial loss by getting trapped in this fraud. To avoid such frauds, a statement has now been issued by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India i.e. TRAI.

What has TRAI said

TRAI has said in a written statement that some fraudsters are targeting consumers through telephone calls or messages by claiming themselves to be TRAI officials. Such people threaten that the person is involved in illegal activities, so the mobile connection will be disconnected. In return, money is threatened.

TRAI does not ask for money from customers
TRAI has said that it does not contact customers regarding the disconnection of mobile numbers through messages or any other means. They have not given this work to any third party. TRAI says that the call coming in its name can be a possible fraud attempt and people have been advised to avoid it.

Telecom companies make calls.
TRAI has said that calls or messages related to the disconnection of a mobile number due to billing, KYC or any other reason are made only by the Telecom Service Provider (TSP). That is, only the telecom company makes such calls. People have been told not to fall into the trap of suspicious fraudsters and not to panic.

You can complain on Chakshu.
TRAI has said that in case of cybercrime and financial fraud, people should complain through the Chakshu facility on the Sanchar Saathi platform. For this, one has to go to the portal ttps://sancharsaathi.gov.in/sfc/. People can also report the incident on the cyber crime helpline number '1930' or through the official website https://cybercrime.gov.in/. People have been advised to also get information about the number from their telecom operator before taking any action on receiving a fraudulent call. This will ensure whether the caller was the right person or a fraudster.
