SBI's UPI service will be unavailable for 45 minutes on September 4. Find out the timing of the service suspension, the reason behind it, and how you can make payments using UPI Lite during this period.

If you use SBI's UPI service to send money, shop online, or pay bills, this news is important for you. The UPI service of the country's largest public sector bank, the State Bank of India (SBI), will be unavailable for a brief period on September 4. The bank has already informed its customers about this.

According to SBI, this disruption is not due to a technical glitch but is part of scheduled technical maintenance. The bank periodically performs maintenance on its digital systems to enhance service security.

How long will the UPI service be down?

According to information released by SBI, the UPI service will be suspended for 45 minutes. The SBI alert states that the maintenance window is scheduled for September 4, from 12:15 AM to 1:00 AM. However, some reports mention a window of 12:30 AM to 1:15 AM. Payments via SBI's UPI service will not be possible during this time; therefore, if you need to make any urgent payments, it is advisable to complete them before this period begins.

How will it work?

During the maintenance period, customers can use UPI Lite for small payments. SBI has also advised customers to utilize the UPI Lite option. UPI Lite allows for small-value payments, and notably, a UPI PIN is not required for each transaction. According to SBI, a single transaction of up to ₹1,000 can be made using UPI Lite, while the maximum balance limit for UPI Lite is ₹5,000.

What should customers do?

If you need to send money to someone or make an urgent online payment at night, it is best to complete the transaction before the maintenance work begins. Additionally, a debit card, net banking, or any other payment option can be used if needed.
