SBI Online Scam: In this fraudulent scheme, cyber fraudsters send messages to customers claiming that their YONO SBI app will soon be deactivated because their Aadhaar details have not been updated.

SBI Online Scam: The country's largest bank, the State Bank of India (SBI), has issued a warning to its customers regarding a new online fraud scheme. This scam targets individuals through fake messages in an attempt to steal their banking credentials.

How Are People Being Lured?

In this fraud, cyber fraudsters send messages to customers asserting that their YONO SBI app is about to be suspended due to unupdated Aadhaar details. The messages pressure users to complete their KYC (Know Your Customer) update immediately and provide a link, instructing them to click on it.

What Is This Message, Really?

These messages are entirely fraudulent. The links or APK files provided within them are, in reality, malicious; they can steal your login credentials, access your banking information, and gain access to private data stored on your phone. Once they get their hands on this information, the fraudsters can easily withdraw money from your account.

What Advice Has SBI Offered?

  • SBI has explicitly stated that customers should not trust any such messages and should refrain from downloading apps via unknown links.

According to the Bank:

  • Always download apps exclusively from official app stores.
  • Be cautious of links received via email, SMS, or WhatsApp.
  • Do not share any form of personal information.

How Can You Keep Yourself Safe?

To protect yourself from online fraud, it is crucial to adopt certain essential precautions:

  • Avoid clicking on any suspicious links.
  • Regularly review the apps installed on your phone and check the permissions granted to them.
  • Verify any messages regarding KYC or banking updates directly through the bank's official website or a local branch.
  • Do not make hasty decisions, as fraudsters often exploit people's fear or sense of urgency.
  • While digital banking has become increasingly convenient, the risk of fraud has risen in equal measure. In such a situation, it is essential that you remain vigilant and thoroughly verify any suspicious message or link before trusting it.
