It is well known that the month of May is often viewed as a period for financial adjustments, during which several significant changes are typically implemented. In addition to credit cards, new changes to banking regulations across various other sectors are also set to take effect tomorrow.
Changes to Annual Fee Limits
If you incorporate your SBI Credit Card into your daily routine, tomorrow is going to be a very important day for you. According to information provided on the SBI Card website, effective May 1, 2026, certain changes will be made to the rules governing annual fees, in addition to the charges applicable to payments. Furthermore, customers will now be offered the facility of an annual fee reversal upon reaching a specific spending threshold.
What Are the Penal Provisions for Outstanding Credit Card Dues?
Notably, this major change is being implemented specifically for the SBI BPCL Credit Card. On March 29th—last month—the bank issued a notice stating that, effective May 1st, cardholders would be granted an annual fee waiver only if their annual spending reaches or exceeds ₹100,000. Customers whose annual spending falls below ₹100,000 will be required to pay the applicable fee.
What Changes Are Being Made to Late Payment Limits?
According to the information available on the website, previously, no charges were levied on outstanding dues amounting to ₹500 or less; however, this exemption has now been strictly limited to outstanding amounts of up to ₹100 only.
Will Charges Apply to Outstanding Dues Between ₹500 and ₹1,000? For outstanding dues ranging from ₹500 to ₹1,000, a fee of ₹500 will now be mandatory, replacing the previous fee of ₹400. Meanwhile, a fee of ₹1,300 will apply to outstanding dues exceeding ₹50,000. Currently, no changes have been made to the fee slabs for higher outstanding amounts.
