SBI Bank Strike Advisory: If you have any urgent banking tasks pending, ensure you complete them before September 26. The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), a joint organization of bank employees, has called for a three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to September 30, 2026, to press for their demands.

In view of the strike, the country's largest public sector bank, the State Bank of India (SBI), has issued an alert and advisory for its millions of customers. The bank has urged customers to complete their branch-related tasks in time to avoid inconvenience.

Bank branches may remain affected for 5 consecutive days.

The timing of the strike is such that bank branches may remain non-functional for normal operations for five consecutive days:

September 26 (Saturday): Fourth Saturday (regular bank holiday).

September 27 (Sunday): Weekly holiday.

September 28 to 30 (Monday to Wednesday): UFBU's proposed 3-day nationwide strike.

This means that from Saturday to Wednesday—a span of five consecutive days—customers will not find staff available at bank branches as they would on normal working days.

SBI Advisory: Complete branch-related tasks early

SBI has clarified that it will make every effort to maintain essential services at its branches during the strike; however, if a large number of employees participate in the strike, branch-level operations could be affected.

Tasks such as cheque clearance, submission of physical documents, loan disbursement, and other activities requiring a visit to the branch or assistance from bank staff may face delays. The bank has advised customers with pending branch-related work to visit the branch and complete it before September 26.

Use these services for cash and routine transactions.

SBI stated that despite the strike, the bank's digital and online platforms will continue to operate normally:

For cash withdrawal/deposit: Customers can use the nearest ATMs and ADWMs (Automated Deposit and Withdrawal Machines). Services in villages and towns: Customer Service Points (CSPs) can be utilized for banking services.

Digital banking will remain operational: Money transfers and online payments via the YONO app, internet banking, mobile banking, and UPI will continue without interruption.

UFBU warns of further strikes

The bank employees' union, UFBU, held a one-day nationwide strike on September 11. The union has also proposed an indefinite strike starting October 26, 2026, if their demands are not met following the three-day strike scheduled for September 28–30.

If you need to make a large payment, get a draft issued, or deposit a cheque towards the end of this month, please complete the process before September 26. For minor financial transactions, rely on online UPI or the YONO app to avoid any inconvenience during the strike.
