With the facility of blocking stolen mobile phones from the Sanchar Sathi portal, mobile phone consumers will get relief from unwanted calls this year. Telecom companies will also start the facility of Caller Name Presentation (CNAP) i.e. display of caller's name along with the number this year.

After the formation of the new government, the Telecom Department will issue formal instructions to the telecom companies in this regard. However, sources say that telecom companies have been asked to start trials related to CNAP facility. Before implementing this facility across the country, companies can trial it in certain areas for three months.

The caller's name will be visible

Telecom companies believe that this CNAP facility can be restored in the next six to eight months. Telecom companies provide the facility of calling line identification under which the number of the caller is visible. By expanding this facility, the name will also be visible along with the number.

In this regard, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) issued a draft in February last. For the last several years, efforts have been going on to provide the facility of name-calling during calls to phone users. So that they can avoid spam and unwanted calls. However, apps like Truecaller provide the facility of displaying names along with numbers. But once the CNAP facility is restored by the telecom companies, the same name will be displayed on the phone along with the number in which KYC has been done for the SIM of that number.

Separate number series for telemarketing

On taking bulk connection, the name of that company or organization will be displayed. A separate number series is proposed for telemarketing. So that customers know that this is a telemarketing number. This facility will be provided for mobile phones as well as landline phones.

According to sources, efforts are also being made to know the name of the caller even when receiving calls from abroad. If the customer does not want to avail the facility of CNAP, he can also refuse it.
