Sanchar Saathi: If your mobile phone is lost or stolen, then there is no need to panic. 'Sanchar Saathi Portal', an important initiative of the Government of India, can help you in this situation. This portal has been developed by the Center for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). With its help, you can block, track and recover your lost or stolen smartphone.

Part of this portal is the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system which blocks the device from the network with the help of IMEI number and also traces it with the help of police and telecom companies. If your phone is also lost or stolen, then by visiting the Sanchar Sathi portal, you can enter its information and start the process of tracking or blocking your device.

Track a lost or stolen mobile like this

First of all, the user has to get a duplicate SIM card from his telecom service provider so that the old number can be used. After this, an FIR has to be registered at the nearest police station. After registering the complaint, you have to go to the Sanchar Sathi portal. Let's know how to register a complaint on this portal:

First of all go to https://www.ceir.gov.in/.

Click on the "Block/Stolen Mobile" option on the homepage.

Then enter the IMEI number of the mobile, information related to the complaint, address linked to Aadhaar and an alternate contact number.

After filling all the information, submit the form.

As soon as the complaint is registered, this information reaches the police department, cyber crime cell and telecom operators. If the stolen or lost phone connects to the network again through any SIM, the system gets alerted and helps in recovering the device by tracing its location.

How effective is the Sanchar Saathi portal

According to government data, so far more than 33 lakh mobile phones have been blocked through this portal, while more than 20 lakh devices have been traced. The most important thing is that more than 4.5 lakh mobile phones have been handed back to their real owners.
