Salaries to be credited on September 25 this month; here is the real reason behind the government's decision
Central government employees will receive their salaries in advance on September 25 this month. Typically, salaries or pensions are credited to their accounts on the last working day of the month, but this time, the payment will arrive earlier.
Salaries and pensions for central government employees are usually credited to their accounts on the last working day of the month. This means that if the last day of the month falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or a bank holiday, the salary is credited a day earlier—on the last actual working day. However, this time, the salary will be disbursed well in advance, on September 25. The government has taken this decision unexpectedly.
Why will the salary be credited early?
The Ministry of Finance has advised all departments and ministries to disburse the September salary in advance on September 25, in view of the three-day bank strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU). The UFBU, representing 90% of banking sector employees, has announced a strike from September 28 to September 30, 2026.
This strike coincides with the half-yearly closing scheduled for September 30. Consequently, in light of the proposed three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30, 2026, an Office Memorandum issued by the Controller General of Accounts (under the Ministry of Finance) states: "The government has decided that the salary and pension of all central government employees for the month of September 2026 shall be disbursed by central government offices (including Defence, Posts, and Telecommunications) on September 25, 2026 (Friday)."
Adjustment in October's salary
The government has clarified that the amount received on September 25 will be treated as an advance payment. Once the month ends and the final calculation of the full salary and allowances is completed, any discrepancy found in an employee's salary will be adjusted against the salary for the following month, October. This means that if any new allowance, arrears, or overtime payment accrues to you between September 26 and 30—amounts that should have been included in the September salary—the outstanding sum will be added to your October salary.
Who will benefit?
All Central Government employees will benefit from this, including those in the Defence, Postal, and Telecommunications departments.
Wages for industrial workers under the Central Government will also be credited on the 25th.
Pensions for all retired Central Government employees will also be transferred on the 25th through banks and Pay and Accounts Offices (PAO).
