Indian Railways has made Aadhaar-based OTP authentication mandatory for all Tatkal ticket bookings. This new rule has come into effect from today i.e. 15th July 2025 with the aim of preventing misuse of Tatkal train ticket booking and making booking easier for general passengers. Whether you are booking train tickets online through IRCTC or offline through Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters and authorized agents, Aadhaar OTP verification will now be a necessary part of the process.

Aadhaar Authentication

Aadhaar-based OTP authentication has become mandatory for Tatkal train ticket booking from today. Passengers booking Tatkal tickets online will have to enter the one-time password (OTP) sent to their Aadhaar-linked mobile number during the booking process.

Tatkal tickets can be booked one day in advance.

Tatkal train tickets for AC classes (like 1A, 2A, 3A, CC, EC) can be booked from 10:00 am a day before the journey. Tatkal tickets for non-AC classes (such as sleeper and second sitting) can be booked from 11:00 am on the same day.

Aadhaar OTP verification is mandatory through counters and agents.

If you are booking Tatkal train tickets offline, whether by visiting a ticket counter or through an authorised agent, Aadhaar OTP is still mandatory

Tatkal tickets booked through computerised PRS counters and authorised railway agents will require an additional layer of Aadhaar OTP verification from July 15, 2025. Passengers will have to provide their Aadhaar number and registered mobile number at the time of booking. The train ticket will be issued only once the Aadhaar OTP is successfully verified.

The chart will be prepared 8 hours in advance.
The Railway Board has proposed that the reservation chart will be prepared 8 hours before the departure of the train. For trains departing before 2:00 pm, the chart will be prepared at 9:00 pm the previous day. Earlier, the reservation chart was prepared 4 hours before the departure of the train, giving very little time to passengers to find alternate modes of travel.
