Republic Day 2026: Delhi Police Issues Traffic Advisory, Know the Important Guidelines for Metro, Buses, and Personal Vehicles
Keeping in mind the Republic Day parade and its rehearsals, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory implementing traffic bans and diversions in several areas of Central Delhi.
Traffic restrictions have been increased in Delhi amidst preparations for Republic Day 2026. Considering the Republic Day parade and its rehearsals, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory implementing traffic bans and diversions in several areas of Central Delhi. From January 19th (today) to January 21st, the movement of general vehicles will be affected on several major roads from morning to afternoon due to parade rehearsals. Therefore, if you are going to the office, school, college, or for any important work, it is essential to know the traffic-related information. So, let's tell you what traffic advisory the Delhi Police has issued and what the important guidelines are for metro, buses, and personal vehicles.
Traffic will be affected on these days and times:
According to the Delhi Traffic Police, the Republic Day parade rehearsals started on January 17th. There was no rehearsal on January 18th, but rehearsals will be held again on January 19th, 20th, and 21st. During this time, several roads in Central Delhi will be affected from approximately 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. During the rehearsal, the parade route will be from Vijay Chowk to India Gate. This route will pass through Kartavya Path to C-Hexagon. Therefore, traffic control and diversions will be in effect throughout this area.
Traffic will be closed or controlled at these intersections:
Kartavya Path-Rafi Marg
Kartavya Path-Janpath
Kartavya Path-Man Singh Road
Kartavya Path-C-Hexagon
In addition, Kartavya Path from Vijay Chowk to India Gate will be completely closed.
Special arrangements for Metro passengers
Special announcements will be made at metro stations for spectators coming to watch the Republic Day parade. These announcements will provide ticket and pass holders with information about the correct metro station and route. This year, all seating enclosures for the parade have been named after rivers, and passengers have been given the necessary directions accordingly. Specifically, spectators seated in the southern section, whose enclosures are named after rivers such as Beas, Brahmaputra, Ganga, Ghaghara, Godavari, Indus, and Jhelum, have been advised to alight at Udyog Bhawan Metro Station. Spectators in the northern section, whose enclosures are named after rivers such as Kaveri, Kosi, Krishna, Narmada, Yamuna, Sutlej, and Teesta, have been advised to alight at Central Secretariat Metro Station.
QR Code-Based Parking System
For the convenience of spectators arriving by car, a QR code-based parking system has been implemented this year. This system covers 22 designated parking locations and provides parking for approximately 8,000 vehicles. By scanning the QR code printed on their parking pass, spectators can get real-time information about the parking area closest to their seating location.
Delhi Police Appeal for January 26th
The Delhi Police has appealed to the public to use the metro and public transport as much as possible instead of private vehicles on January 26th. They have also advised people to check traffic advisories before leaving home to avoid any inconvenience during the Republic Day celebrations.
