Free Gas Cylinder: A major government gift is being prepared in Delhi before Holi. The Rekha Gupta government has taken an important decision regarding free gas cylinders. Find out who will benefit and how.

Free Gas Cylinder: This Holi could be a time of relief, not just colours, for the people of Delhi. The Rekha Gupta government has taken a major decision to directly benefit poor families. The scheme to provide one free LPG gas cylinder each on Holi and Diwali has been approved by the cabinet. The government has allocated a budget of approximately Rs 300 crore for this.

This decision is linked to the BJP's election promise to provide free cylinders to poor families during festivals. On the occasion of completing one year in power, the government has decided to implement this scheme. The first free cylinder will be given on Holi. This means that preparing for the festival will be easier, starting right from the kitchen. Find out who will benefit.

Who will get free cylinders in Delhi?

This scheme is for the economically weaker sections of Delhi. Families who are ration card holders and fall under the poor category under the Public Distribution System will benefit. Currently, there are approximately 17.18 lakh ration card holders in Delhi. Initially, these people will be included in the scheme. The government has identified eligible beneficiaries based on the ration card database.

The verification process has also been completed. This means that families whose names are correctly registered in the ration card system will not have to go through any lengthy procedures. The government's focus is on those households where the gas cylinder is the biggest burden on daily expenses. This scheme will bring direct relief to such families.

How to get a free cylinder?

Instead of delivering gas cylinders to the beneficiaries' homes, the Delhi government is opting for direct money transfer. According to officials, an amount equivalent to the price of one cylinder, approximately Rs 850, will be transferred to the beneficiaries' Aadhaar-linked bank accounts on Holi and Diwali. This money will be transferred through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).

After this, families will be able to collect their cylinders from their nearest gas agency. The government says this will reduce the scope for middlemen. A similar system is already in place in Uttar Pradesh, and the same model is being adopted in Delhi. The first transfer could be made around Holi. This means that this year, along with the festivities, the worries about kitchen expenses will also be eased.
