Ration Card Update: Government revamps grain procurement system; relief from long queues and shortages expected.
ONORC Scheme India: Under the 'One Nation One Ration Card' (ONORC) facility, ration card holders can now procure wheat and rice from any ration shop according to their needs, thereby reducing inconvenience.
One Nation One Ration Card Scheme: The government is continuously working on digital solutions to simplify the ration procurement process across the country. Recently, a facility was introduced allowing ration card holders to procure grain from sources other than a single, designated ration shop. You can now collect different grains from different shops based on your convenience—for instance, picking up wheat at one location and rice at another.
A key highlight of this change is that you will no longer face hassles such as standing in long queues, issues with fingerprint authentication on machines, or failing to receive your full ration due to stock unavailability at a specific shop. You can now procure wheat and rice from different shops as per your requirements. Union Minister of State BL Verma shared this information.
What is the One Nation One Ration Card Scheme?
Union Minister of State BL Verma stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the government is working to streamline ration distribution under the One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) scheme. This scheme allows ration card holders to collect different portions of their ration from various locations at their convenience. This facility can be availed from any part of the country.

#OneNationOneRationCard pic.twitter.com/x0tfXxRbv4
This system functions much like an ATM. Just as you can withdraw cash from any ATM based on your needs, you can collect your grain from any corner of the country.
What are the benefits of ONORC?
The biggest beneficiaries of the One Nation One Ration Card scheme will be the families of migrant workers. They are no longer tethered to the ration shop in their home village; instead, regardless of which state or city they reside in, they can collect their allocated ration using their Aadhaar details and biometric authentication.
