Under the One Nation One Ration Card scheme, more than 193,000 fake members have been removed so far, while over 4.6 million members are on the suspect list. So, let's now tell you which district in Chhattisgarh has the most fake ration cards.
Most fake ration card members in the capital
An investigation conducted under the One Nation One Ration Card scheme has revealed that Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, leads the list in fake ration cards. Raipur has reported 19,574 fake members. Following Raipur, Durg is second, with 18,112 incorrect names on ration cards. Janjgir-Champa is next, with 17,529 fake members. Errors have been found in 17,327 ration cards in Rajnandgaon and 16,064 in Korba. Furthermore, 15,612 fake ration card holders have been found in Surguja, 13,833 in Balodabazar, 13,308 in Mahasamund, 10,937 in Dhamtari, and 9,987 in Kawardha.
How the fraud was detected
The Food Department has launched a door-to-door physical verification campaign in all districts of Chhattisgarh. Families whose e-KYC was not completed were specifically verified. Following this, several cases were uncovered where deceased individuals' names were added to ration cards using duplicate Aadhaar cards or fake documents. Furthermore, some individuals who had left the state and settled in other states were also found to be involved in this fraud, yet rations were still being collected in their names. According to Food Department officials, the investigation of approximately 53,000 suspected members is still pending. These include deceased individuals, those who have migrated, and those linked to fake documents. Once the investigation is complete, their names will also be removed from ration cards.
Sifting will now be done based on income and land holdings
In Chhattisgarh, the department is now removing the names of families with annual incomes exceeding ₹6 lakh, those who pay income tax, or those who own more than 5 acres of land. According to the Chhattisgarh Food Controller Department, more than 19,000 fake members have already been removed in Raipur, while the investigation of more than 9,000 names is in the final stages. Following this, ineligible families will be screened in other districts as well. Regarding this investigation, the government says that the purpose of this campaign is to provide cheap rations only to genuinely poor families.
