Applying for a New Ration Card: If you are living apart from your family for any reason and want to get a separate ration card, you no longer need to face much hassle. The government facilitates the issuance of new ration cards even for those living separately from their families due to disputes. If you wish to get a new ration card, it is certainly achievable; you simply need to comply with certain rules and provide specific documents. Let’s look at the complete process.

What is the process for getting a new ration card?

  • To get a separate ration card, first, have your name removed from the existing family ration card.
  • Apply for this at your nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) or the Department of Food and Civil Supplies.
  • Fill out the 'Name Deletion Form' and submit it along with your Aadhaar card, a copy of the old ration card, and the application form.
  • Once the process is complete, the department will issue you a 'Surrender Certificate' (or Surrender Slip).
  • You can apply for a new ration card only after receiving this surrender slip.

What documents are required?

  • Income certificate
  • Proof of new address
  • Aadhaar card (of all family members)
  • Copy of bank passbook
  • Passport-sized photograph of the head of the family
  • Surrender slip confirming the removal of your name from the old ration card

How to apply for a new ration card?

Apply online via the official website of your state's Department of Food and Civil Supplies.
Alternatively, you can apply from the comfort of your home using the UMANG App.
When applying, you must register yourself as an 'Independent Family'.

Home verification after application

Once the application is submitted, officials from the Department of Food and Civil Supplies will verify your address. The verification process will check whether you are truly living separately and maintaining a separate kitchen. If the report confirms this information, a new ration card will be issued.
