This raises a key question: how can family members living in different locations access their rations? The Department of Food & Public Distribution (DFPD) has clarified this matter on its official social media platform, 'X'. They confirmed that family members living apart *can* indeed collect their allocated rations from different ration shops.

What is the ONORC rule?
If you hold an AAY or PHH ration card, the provision for this falls under the ONORC (One Nation One Ration Card) scheme. This means that even if family members live in different locations, they can collect their allocated rations from separate shops. There is no requirement for any family member to purchase supplies from a single, specific shop; eligible beneficiaries of AAY or PHH cards can collect rations from anywhere.
What if someone else has the ration card?
If another family member holds the ration card and you are concerned that you won't be able to collect your ration, rest assured—that is not the case. Possessing the physical ration card is not mandatory for collecting rations. You simply need to visit a nearby ration shop and provide the shopkeeper with your ration card number or Aadhaar number. Then, by having your fingerprint and eye scan registered on the ePOS machine, you can easily collect your share of the ration.
