Indian Railways has taken a major step to make online ticket booking more secure. Since January 2025, the railways have deactivated 3.02 crore suspicious user IDs to prevent ticket black marketing. An anti-bot system has now been implemented in Tatkal ticket booking to ensure that only genuine passengers can book tickets. Aadhaar-based OTP verification has been introduced for online Tatkal tickets in 322 trains, while this facility has also been implemented at reservation counters for 211 trains.

The impact of these government decisions is already visible. The availability of Tatkal tickets has improved in 95% of 96 popular trains, meaning passengers can now get confirmed Tatkal tickets more easily than before. To prevent fraud, officials regularly advise against trusting travel websites that guarantee confirmed tickets. Some websites offer schemes like triple refunds under the guise of premium services, but exercise caution when using such offers.

Stay Alert, Stay Safe
Always use the official IRCTC website or app when booking train tickets. Download the app only from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Do not trust any other website or app; otherwise, you may fall victim to fraud. If you suspect you have been scammed, immediately file a complaint with the cybercrime cell.

Scammers try to lure you with messages or emails offering cheap tickets. They send links that, when clicked, take you to fake websites or apps. As soon as you enter your information there, they steal your data. Sometimes, these fraudsters send fake messages using the names of large companies to gain your trust.
