Waiting in trains is confirmed in two ways, first in the normal way i.e. without any Jugaad and second is the emergency quota of railways.

According to the Railway Ministry, out of the total confirmed reservations in trains, about 21 percent people do not travel, such people cancel their tickets. In this way, there is a possibility of 21 percent confirmation in the normal way. You can calculate it by looking at your waiting number. There are 72 seats in a sleeper coach, on an average there is a possibility of 14 waiting numbers per coach getting confirmed.
Four to five percent do not travel after the chart is prepared.
The ministry said that four to five percent of people do not travel even after the chart is prepared. Hence, including these four percent, there is a possibility of about 25 percent confirmation.

For example, most long-distance trains have 10 sleeper coaches. There is a possibility of 18-18 waiting seats getting confirmed in their 10 coaches. In this way, there is a possibility of up to 180 waiting seats getting confirmed. A similar formula is applicable in AC First, Second, and Third. However, during festivals, people cancel confirmed tickets less often, so this figure can be a little less.
