Railway Services to Remain Suspended on the Night of March 26-27; PNR Status Checks, Ticket Booking, and Cancellations to be Halted

Northern Railway has announced that Passenger Reservation System services in Delhi will be temporarily suspended due to maintenance work. During this period, facilities ranging from ticket booking to cancellations and inquiries will be unavailable.

An important update has emerged for passengers traveling by train. If you are planning to book or cancel a ticket, or check your PNR status on the night of March 26–27, you may face some inconvenience. Specifically, several essential railway services—both online and counter-based—in the Delhi region are set to remain completely suspended for a few hours. Consequently, the Railways advises passengers to complete any essential travel-related tasks in advance to avoid last-minute difficulties.

How ​​Long Will Services Remain Suspended?

Northern Railway has stated that services related to the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) in Delhi will be temporarily halted for maintenance purposes. During this interval, facilities such as ticket booking, cancellations, and inquiries will not be accessible. According to the Railways, this suspension will commence at 11:45 PM on the night of March 26, 2026, and continue until 4:45 AM on the morning of March 27, 2026—spanning a duration of approximately five hours. During this period, passengers will be unable to utilize several essential railway services.

Which Services Will Be Affected?

According to the Railways, several essential passenger facilities linked to the Delhi portal will be unavailable on the night of March 26–27. This includes the suspension of reservation services via both IRCTC (online) and railway counters. Passengers will be unable to check the PNR status of their tickets. The facility to cancel confirmed or waitlisted tickets will also be unavailable. Furthermore, due to the suspension of train charting services, passengers will be unable to utilize charting and EDR (Electronic Deposit Receipt) facilities. Additionally, Tatkal (emergency) and last-minute bookings will also be affected.

Railways Issues Important Advisory for Passengers

According to the Railways, this step has been taken to enhance the system’s capacity and speed. Services are being temporarily suspended to facilitate maintenance and technical upgrades, ensuring that passengers receive improved and faster services in the future. The Railways has appealed to passengers to complete all essential travel-related tasks in advance. In particular, if you need to book or cancel tickets, please ensure these tasks are completed before 11:45 PM on March 26 to avoid any inconvenience.
