In fact, during Diwali, many passengers think of buying cheap firecrackers from the station and taking them to their villages or cities by train. However, railway rules clearly state that carrying any kind of flammable or explosive material on trains is strictly prohibited. This includes firecrackers, sparklers, rockets, pomegranates, or any pyrotechnic items.

Why are firecrackers banned?
Carrying firecrackers on trains is not only a violation of regulations but also poses a threat to the lives of hundreds of passengers. A small spark or mistake can set the entire train ablaze. Every year during Diwali, the Railway Security Department strictly monitors this rule and urges passengers to stay away from such dangerous items.

Could face imprisonment
According to Indian Railways rules, if a passenger carries any of the prohibited items while traveling, they can be prosecuted under Section 164 of the Railway Act. Under this section, the passenger can be fined ₹1,000, imprisoned for three years, or both. Since firecrackers fall under the category of prohibited items, they will also be liable for punishment if found carrying them on a train.
