Railway: If your train is delayed, you will get a full refund; you just need to do this one thing; the railway will not deduct a single rupee..
During the winter season, trains are often delayed for hours due to the cold weather. Due to train delays, many passengers change their plans and reach their destination using buses or other means of transport. In case of a train delay, you are entitled to a full refund.
If you do not wish to travel due to a train delay, you can get a full refund. However, there are certain rules. Let's find out under what circumstances you will receive a refund and what you need to do to get it.
How many hours of train delay entitle you to a refund?
If the train is delayed by 3 hours or more from its scheduled time, a full refund will be given. The railways have mentioned this in their rules regarding their refund policy.
According to Indian Railways, if the journey is not undertaken due to the train being delayed by more than three hours from its scheduled time, no cancellation charges will be levied, and the full fare will be refunded to all passengers with fully or partially confirmed tickets, provided that:
The train is delayed by more than three hours at the passenger's boarding station.
An online TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt) has been filed before the actual departure of the train to claim a full refund.
All passengers booked on a single PNR have not undertaken the journey.
If the ticket is cancelled, or if an online request for a fare refund is made after the actual departure of the train, no refund of the fare will be given.
How to file a TDR?
You can file a TDR by logging into IRCTC. Follow the steps given below to file a TDR.
