Pursue B.Tech in Hindi Medium: Engineering Course Launched in MP

B.Tech studies will now be available in Hindi medium at SGSITS Indore, an engineering college in Madhya Pradesh. Students in the final year of this course—launched under the National Education Policy (NEP)—will receive an incentive of ₹2 lakh.

There is great news for students in Madhya Pradesh who wish to study in Hindi medium. Indore's Shri GS Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS) has launched a B.Tech program in Civil Engineering in Hindi medium, starting from the 2026-27 academic session. This is considered the first initiative of its kind in Madhya Pradesh, offering significant relief to students who previously hesitated to pursue engineering studies in English.

Why was this decision taken?

Most technical terms in engineering education are in English. Consequently, many students struggle to grasp concepts initially. This language barrier often impacts their studies, leading some to decide to drop out of the course midway. Addressing this issue, the institute decided to introduce Civil Engineering studies in Hindi medium.

Students to receive an incentive

This step aligns with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The NEP places special emphasis on imparting education in the mother tongue and regional languages, enabling students to better understand subjects by studying in their own language. In line with this vision, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) had initiated the move to offer technical education in several Indian languages, including Hindi, starting from the 2021-22 academic year.

Previous initiatives

According to the AICTE, around 20 institutions launched engineering courses in six languages—including Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil—during the 2021-22 academic year, with approximately 255 students enrolling at the time. Additionally, the AICTE has launched a major project to translate engineering textbooks into 12 Indian languages, ensuring students have access to comprehensive study material in their own language.

Starting with Civil Engineering

For now, this course has been introduced specifically within the Civil Engineering department at SGSITS. If this experiment proves successful, it could be extended to other disciplines such as Mechanical, Electrical, and Computer Science in the future. This would benefit thousands of students from Madhya Pradesh who come from villages and small towns and have pursued their education in the Hindi medium.

Number of Seats and Student Enrollment

The college has allocated 30 seats for this special batch. Preliminary reports indicate that around 20 students have already enrolled in the course. The significant number of students interested in pursuing engineering in the Hindi medium clearly demonstrates that this initiative is being well-received by the student body.
