Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC): The government is considering new rules regarding the Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC). Under these, the validity period for BS-VI vehicles could be extended to up to 3 years.

Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC): Obtaining a PUCC is a mandatory requirement for anyone driving a car or bike. However, many people skip getting it done, viewing it as a hassle. Now, the government is preparing to make significant changes to the PUCC regulations aimed at controlling vehicular pollution. According to reports, the validity period of the PUCC for new BS-VI vehicles could be extended to 3 years.

Vehicles set to get relief.

Under the new plan, owners of private BS-VI vehicles will not need to renew their PUCC annually.
The government states that BS-VI vehicles emit significantly less pollution compared to older models.
This is the reason why the regulations might be relaxed.
Do not ignore even a faint smell of gas at home; take timely action to potentially save lives.

Will commercial vehicles be affected too?

According to sources, the rules for commercial BS-VI vehicles might differ.
However, in some cases, they could be brought under the same PUCC regulatory framework as private vehicles that are up to 6 years old.

What are the rules for older vehicles?

According to the regulations, the PUCC for BS-VI cars aged between 6 and 10 years will need to be renewed annually.
Meanwhile, if a vehicle is older than 10 years, renewing the PUCC every six months could become mandatory.

What happens if you don't have a PUCC?

If you do not possess a valid PUCC, action can be taken against you under the regulations.
This could result in a fine of up to ₹10,000 and imprisonment for up to 6 months. Please note that a first-time violation can lead to the suspension of your driving license for three months.

How much does it cost to get a PUCC?

People often skip getting a PUCC due to a lack of time, but did you know how affordable it is to get your vehicle's pollution checked? For instance:

Two-wheelers: ₹60 to ₹80
CNG/Petrol cars: ₹80 to ₹100
Diesel cars: ₹120 to ₹150
Keep in mind that these rates may vary slightly from state to state.
