Starting in April, the prices of several essential items are likely to rise. This list includes everyday consumer goods such as cars, two-wheelers, televisions, refrigerators, and air conditioners. This surge is occurring because the cost of raw materials used to manufacture these goods is rising rapidly. Additionally, transportation and shipping costs have also increased. According to reports, the prices of these items could see an increase of approximately 5 to 6 percent. Consequently, starting in April, consumers may have to spend more money than before to purchase these goods.

Rising Raw Material Costs
According to reports, several companies are preparing to hike the prices of their products. The primary reason for this is the sudden surge in the cost of raw materials such as plastics, resins, and polymers. These raw materials are extensively used in the manufacturing of electronic goods and automobiles. Furthermore, international freight rates—the cost of transporting goods—have also gone up. Over the recent past, freight rates have witnessed an increase of approximately 7 to 10 percent.

When companies incur higher costs to manufacture goods and transport them to the market, they typically pass those costs on by incorporating them into the final product price. This is why customers may end up having to pay higher prices.

Cars to Become More Expensive
According to reports, several car manufacturers are considering raising their prices by approximately 2 to 3 percent. Some luxury car manufacturers have already made such announcements; for instance, Mercedes-Benz and Audi have stated that they will increase the prices of their cars by about 2 percent starting April 1st. Meanwhile, manufacturers of mass-market cars are also currently in the process of finalizing their new pricing structures.

TVs and Fridges to Get Costlier Too
It is not just cars; other household electronic appliances—such as televisions, refrigerators, and air conditioners—are also likely to become more expensive. This is because these products involve extensive use of plastic-based components. Companies may hike their prices by approximately 5 to 6 percent.

What else will become more expensive?
Additionally, footwear, clothing made from synthetic fibers, and decorative paints used for homes could also become costlier by 9 to 10 percent.

Furthermore, the value of the Indian Rupee has depreciated by about 2 percent against the US Dollar. When the value of the Rupee falls, goods imported from abroad become more expensive. This has a direct impact on companies' costs.
