NPCI UPI Payment Request Ban 2025: NPCI has decided to stop the P2P collection facility in UPI from October 1, 2025. Know why this step was taken and what the benefit will be to the users from this

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has taken a big step to stop the increasing fraud on the UPI platform. Now, the collection request facility to ask for money from a person through UPI apps will be completely stopped from October 1, 2025. This decision will be applicable to all member banks and payment service providers (PSPs).

Why was this decision taken?

NPCI found that many fraudsters were cheating innocent users by misusing the P2P 'collection' facility. Through this facility, any person could send a payment request to another, due to which many times people transferred money by mistake.

What will change?

After October 1, 2025, no UPI app or bank will process P2P collection transactions

Now all UPI transactions will be initiated only by the payer

For this, the user will have to scan the QR code or enter the UPIID manually.

Expert opinion

Rahul Jain, CFO of NTT Data Payment Services India, said, this change will make UPI more secure. Now the user will have full control over his transaction.

Current limit and fraud

Currently there is a limit of ₹ 2,000 per transaction and a maximum of 50 requests can be sent in a day. But despite this, cases of fraud were not stopping. This step of NPCI gives priority to the security of the users.
