Post Office: Your Parcel Will Now Arrive Within 24 Hours; Government Set to Launch a Special Scheme..
Now, you will no longer have to wait for days for urgent parcels sent via the Post Office. The government is set to launch a new, expedited delivery service under which your parcel will reach designated cities within just 24 hours. This new facility will be paarticularly beneficial for individuals who need to send urgent documents, goods, or parcels immediately.
The Department of Posts is launching the new '24 Speed Post' service on March 17, 2026. The service will be inaugurated by Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia and Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani. The launch ceremony will be held at the Rang Bhavan Auditorium, located within Akashvani Bhavan in New Delhi, and will be attended by several senior officials from the Department.
Who Will Benefit?
Under this new service, the objective is to deliver parcels sent through the system by the very next day—that is, within 24 hours. Initially, this facility will be available in six major cities across the country. Residents of these specific cities will be the primary beneficiaries of this service. These cities include Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. This new framework offers not only a 24-hour service option but also an alternative for delivery within 48 hours. Under this system, parcels will be processed on a priority basis and transported via air to ensure timely delivery.
Parcel Delivery via OTP
To enhance the security of deliveries, an OTP-based verification system will also be incorporated. This means the recipient of the parcel will receive a One-Time Password (OTP), and the parcel will be handed over only after this OTP is provided. Additionally, customers will receive continuous updates regarding their parcels through SMS alerts and online tracking facilities.
Refunds for Delayed Orders
Several special features have also been added specifically for business customers. Options such as free pickup for bulk orders, a 'Buy Now, Pay Later' (BNPL) facility, API integration, and centralized billing will be made available. A key highlight of this initiative is the provision for refunds; if a delivery fails to reach its destination within the stipulated time, a mechanism is in place to ensure that customers receive a refund. With this new initiative by the government, India Post's parcel delivery service is expected to become faster and more reliable than ever before.
