For the 2025 Bihar elections, the honorarium of polling officers has been increased to ₹400 per day, making them ₹1,600 for a day's duty.

Election preparations are in full swing in Bihar. To ensure voter convenience and fair voting, the State Election Commission has decided to increase the honorarium of polling officers. Previously, polling officers were paid ₹250 per day, but now this amount has been increased to ₹400 per day. This means they will now receive a lump sum of ₹1,600 for a day's polling work.

Previously, polling officers on duty in the Bihar elections were paid ₹250 per day. This amount has been fixed for a long time, and there have been demands from employees for an increase. This time, the Election Commission has accepted this demand and revised the rates. Under the new system, polling officers will now be paid ₹400 per day or a lump sum of ₹1600.

What is their job?

The polling officer's job goes beyond simply conducting the voting. They are responsible for everything from checking the voting machines at the polling station to identifying voters and monitoring the voting process. In case of any malfunction or technical problem at any polling station, they are the first person to respond. Therefore, their role is crucial for the transparency and fairness of the election.

According to the Commission, employees will be paid as per the prescribed procedure after the voting is over. The district administration will maintain a complete record of this to ensure no irregularities or delays. While previously polling officers were paid ₹250 per day, they will now receive ₹400 per day or a lump sum of ₹1600. This is not only financial relief but also recognition for their hard work.

When will the elections be held?

The dates for the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections have been announced. The Election Commission has decided to hold elections in the state on November 6 and 11, with the results announced on November 14. The code of conduct has also been implemented in Bihar with the announcement of the elections.

The opposition initially raised several questions with the Commission regarding the State Voter List (SIR). Subsequently, on September 30, 2025, the Commission released the final voter list, which includes the names of a total of 74,192,357 voters in Bihar. This list includes all new and updated voters.
