PM-WANI Update: Get Free Public WiFi Instantly by Scanning a QR Code as India Introduces Simpler Internet Access Rules.
PM-WANI Wi-Fi: Users will no longer have to endure a lengthy login process to access PM-WANI Wi-Fi services. Under the new system, users can connect to the internet within seconds simply by scanning a QR code.
PM-WANI Wi-Fi: To ensure affordable and accessible internet connectivity for people across the country, the government has implemented several key changes to the PM-WANI (Prime Minister Wi-Fi Access Network Interface) scheme. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) aims to make public Wi-Fi networks more secure, faster, and user-friendly, thereby enabling people to easily access the internet at locations such as railway stations, bus stands, and other public spaces.
Connect to Wi-Fi Instantly by Scanning a QR Code
Accessing PM-WANI Wi-Fi will no longer require navigating through a cumbersome login procedure. Under the new framework, users can establish an internet connection within a matter of seconds by scanning a QR code. This feature also facilitates the easy connection of other devices, such as laptops and tablets. Users simply need to scan the QR code displayed on the login page using their smartphone to gain immediate internet access. This enhancement makes the login process significantly faster and more secure compared to previous methods.
Affordable Plans with 15, 30, and 60-Minute Durations
Keeping the public’s needs in mind, the government has also introduced new short-duration plans under the PM-WANI scheme. These “sachet-style” plans will offer validity periods of 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 60 minutes. These plans are particularly beneficial for individuals who require internet access for brief periods—for instance, while traveling or waiting at railway stations and bus terminals. This allows users to consume data according to their specific requirements at an affordable cost.
Protection Against Fraudulent Wi-Fi Networks
The government has also taken proactive measures to safeguard users against cyber fraud and fake hotspots operating under the guise of public Wi-Fi services. It is now mandatory for official networks to include “PMWANI” branding within their network names. This change will enable users to easily distinguish between genuine and fraudulent Wi-Fi networks. This will help reduce incidents such as data theft and online scams.
Preparations Underway to Expand Internet Access Nationwide
The government believes that these new changes will make the PM-WANI scheme more effective and enable the strengthening of internet access across the country—from rural to urban areas. Features such as simplified logins, affordable plans, and enhanced security will help improve people’s digital experience even further.
