Central and state governments run various schemes to help the economically weaker people, one such scheme is the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana, which is an important scheme aimed at benefiting lakhs of farmers and artisans across the country. Launched on the auspicious occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti on 17 September 2023, this initiative provides financial assistance to traditional artisans and craftsmen who play an important role in preserving the rich cultural heritage of India. Key Features of the Scheme:
Target Beneficiaries: Traditional artisans like carpenters, goldsmiths, sculptors, blacksmiths, and potters are the primary beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana.
Scope of Assistance: Around 30 lakh traditional artisans benefit from this scheme, which aims to promote small and micro enterprises in the country.
Financial Assistance: Beneficiaries receive an advance amount of Rs 15,000 to purchase toolkits, facilitating their craft work. Additionally, the scheme provides loans up to Rs 1 lakh without any collateral with the lowest interest rates, thereby reducing the financial burden on the artisans.
Skill Development: The government emphasizes skill enhancement by providing training opportunities to artisans and craftsmen, promoting self-employment and entrepreneurship.
Application Process:
Artisans and craftsmen can enroll in the scheme through the Common Service Center using the biometric-based PM Vishwakarma portal. However, applicants will have to submit the required documents including an Aadhar card, identity proof, residence certificate, mobile number, caste certificate, bank account passbook and passport-size photograph.
