Key features of PM Surya Ghar Yojana
Government announcement: Prime Minister Modi shared the details of PM Surya Ghar Yojana through a post on his X handle, outlining the provision of providing free electricity to one crore families.
Application process: Interested families can apply for the scheme through the official Surya Ghar Yojana website, where they have to submit some basic information for registration.
Subsidy Details: Though the installation of solar panels is not completely free, the government is offering substantial subsidies:
60% subsidy: The government bears about 60% of the installation cost.
Rs 30,000 per kWh: A direct subsidy of Rs 30,000 per kWh is available.
Higher subsidy for larger installations: For solar panels of more than 3 kW, a subsidy of up to Rs 78,000 is offered.
Panel requirements based on consumption:
For 150 units/month: A solar panel of 1 to 2 kW is required, which is eligible for a subsidy of Rs 30,000 to Rs 60,000.
For 150 to 300 units/month: A panel of 2 to 3 kW is required, with a subsidy of Rs 60,000 to Rs 78,000.
For more than 300 units/month: Panels larger than 3 kW are required, which are eligible for subsidy up to Rs 78,000.
