It has been a year since the launch of PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, and during this time the scheme has achieved 8.6% of its target. The aim of this scheme is to install solar panels on 1 crore houses in three years, and in the first year itself, rooftop solar systems have been installed in 8,61,240 houses.

Out of the stipulated budget of Rs 78,000 crore, a total subsidy of Rs 4,966 crore has been released so far. Plan to reach 1 crore homes by March 2027

The government estimates that solar panels will be installed in 10 lakh homes by March 2025. The scheme will reach 20 lakh installations by October 2025, 40 lakh installations by March 2026, and 1 crore homes by March 2027.

Solar installation will accelerate in the next two years.

Experts believe that solar installation will grow rapidly in FY26 and FY27. In the first year, the pace was a bit slow due to the Lok Sabha elections (General Elections) and State Elections (State Elections). At the same time, government processes will become easier in the next two years, which will accelerate the installation.

According to Rupesh Sankhe, VP, Elara Securities, the scheme will grow rapidly after the initial obstacles. The CEO of Urjan Cleantech said that easy processes, timely implementation and proper maintenance are necessary for the success of the scheme.
