PM Surya Ghar Yojana: Electricity bills tend to rise alongside the soaring summer temperatures, directly impacting people's pockets. Naturally, everyone seeks a way to lower their electricity bills while also benefiting the environment. This is why the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme has become a topic of widespread discussion. Through this scheme, the government provides financial assistance for installing solar panels on rooftops. Notably, the scheme remains open, and subsidies are available until March 31, 2027.

What is the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme?

The Central Government launched the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme in February 2024. The objective behind this scheme is to encourage the adoption of solar energy and reduce electricity costs. Under the scheme, solar panels are installed on rooftops, enabling households to generate the electricity they need themselves.

Growing popularity in this state

Interest in this scheme is surging in Uttar Pradesh. The capital, Lucknow, is leading the way, with a large number of residents installing solar systems in their homes.

How much subsidy is provided?

Regarding the subsidy, installing a 2-kilowatt solar plant costs approximately ₹1.20 lakh. The Central Government provides ₹60,000 in assistance, while the Uttar Pradesh government contributes ₹30,000. This means that after receiving a total subsidy of ₹90,000, the user has to spend only ₹30,000. On the other hand, if you install a solar system with a capacity of 3 kW or more, you can avail a subsidy of up to ₹1.08 lakh.

Benefits available until March 2027

Currently, the scheme is valid until March 31, 2027. Given the strong support for solar energy, such schemes are expected to continue in the future as well. Therefore, if you wish to reduce your household electricity bills, this scheme could prove to be an excellent option for you.
