Have a Jan Dhan Account? PM Modi’s Important Message—Ignore It and Your Account Could Be Deactivated

If you have a Jan Dhan account, now is the time to take action. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has issued an important message to all beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), urging them to complete their e-KYC (Know Your Customer) process immediately. Failure to do so may result in your zero-balance account being frozen or closed.

This announcement came during a public event in Varanasi, where the Prime Minister transferred the 20th installment of the PM-KISAN scheme to over 9.7 crore farmers’ bank accounts. While addressing the nation, he extended a direct appeal to Jan Dhan account holders, emphasizing the importance of completing KYC in time.

📢 Why This Message Matters

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, launched in 2014, has helped more than 55 crore Indians—especially the poor and unbanked—gain access to the formal banking system. Most of these accounts are zero-balance accounts, offering a gateway for beneficiaries to directly receive funds from various government schemes.

However, as PM Modi highlighted, the scheme has now completed 10 years, and under banking regulations, accounts that remain KYC non-compliant for this duration may be deactivated or restricted.

📆 Why KYC is Mandatory Now

According to banking norms, all accounts must undergo KYC verification once every 10 years to continue operating smoothly. Without updated KYC, banks are bound to place limitations or even freeze the accounts. Recognizing this challenge, the government has launched a nationwide e-KYC campaign to make the process more accessible.

“We have started a special campaign with the support of banking officials to help people complete their KYC with ease,” said PM Modi during his Varanasi address.

🏕️ KYC Camps at the Village Level

Starting July 1, 2025, banks have been organizing camps and financial literacy drives in every gram panchayat to assist Jan Dhan account holders in completing their KYC. According to officials, lakhs of people have already completed their e-KYC during these camps.

PM Modi urged everyone who hasn’t yet done it to visit the nearest camp or their bank branch and complete the process at the earliest.

📑 What You Need to Carry for e-KYC

The e-KYC process is simple and quick, requiring just two documents:

  • Aadhaar Card

  • Bank Passbook

At the bank or KYC camp, officials will complete biometric authentication using your Aadhaar-linked fingerprint scan, and the process is typically done within a few minutes.

⚠️ What Happens If You Don’t Complete e-KYC?

If you fail to update your KYC:

  • Your account may be frozen or deactivated.

  • You won’t be able to receive government subsidies like PM-KISAN, DBT transfers, LPG subsidy, etc.

  • Withdrawals and transactions from the account could be restricted.

So, to continue receiving benefits, ensure your account remains active by completing KYC before the deadline.

📝 Final Reminder from PM Modi

Prime Minister Modi's message is clear:

"Please do not ignore this request. Visit your nearest camp or bank and complete your e-KYC. It is crucial to keep your account active and continue receiving the government’s support."
