PM Kisan Yojana: Important news for farmers! Installments could be halted for these reasons..
Millions of farmers across the country await the installments of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. Under this scheme, eligible farmers receive financial assistance totaling ₹6,000 annually. This amount is transferred directly to their bank accounts in three installments, with farmers receiving ₹2,000 per installment.
However, merely registering for PM-KISAN is not enough; farmers must also complete certain mandatory procedures to receive the installments. According to the government, land seeding, linking the bank account with Aadhaar, and e-KYC are three crucial requirements. Failure to complete any of these steps can result in the withholding of installment payments.
1. Land seeding not completed
A major reason for the delay or withholding of installments can be issues with land seeding. Simply put, the details regarding the farmer's land must be correctly recorded and verified in the PM-KISAN records. If land records are not updated or the information in the scheme's database is incomplete, the farmer's installment may be affected. The government has clearly stated that land seeding is one of the mandatory conditions for availing the benefits of PM-KISAN.
2. Bank account not linked with Aadhaar
Another major reason could be the failure to link the bank account with Aadhaar. PM-KISAN funds are transferred via DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) to bank accounts linked with Aadhaar. If a farmer's bank account is not linked to Aadhaar, the installment payment may get stalled. In February 2026, the government informed the Lok Sabha that Aadhaar seeding was pending for the bank accounts of 3,018,361 farmers. This included over 10.44 lakh cases from Uttar Pradesh and approximately 1.39 lakh cases from Bihar.
3. e-KYC not completed
A third and critical reason for the stoppage of installments is the failure to complete e-KYC. The government has made e-KYC mandatory for PM-KISAN beneficiaries. Farmers can complete the e-KYC process via OTP on the PM-KISAN website. Additionally, biometric and face authentication facilities are available. If you encounter issues with online e-KYC, you can seek assistance from the nearest CSC center.
Why were payments for some farmers held up?
According to information provided by the government in Parliament, payments were affected for 1,652,379 beneficiaries due to land-seeding issues, 2,353,748 due to Aadhaar-bank seeding issues, and 3,294,609 due to e-KYC issues—all because mandatory requirements were not met. This makes it clear that merely registering for PM-KISAN is not enough; farmers must also ensure their records are up to date and all necessary verifications are completed.
How to check your status if the installment hasn't arrived
If the ₹2,000 PM-KISAN installment has not been credited to your account, the first step is to check your status. You can view payment-related details via the 'Know Your Status' option on the official PM-KISAN portal. Here, farmers can check information such as payment status, bank name, UTR number, and the date the funds were credited to the account.
Additionally, be sure to check the status of your e-KYC, Aadhaar-bank linking, and land seeding. If any of these processes are incomplete, complete them promptly to avoid issues with future installments.
