The Government of India runs several schemes for the benefit of millions of farmers across the country. One such scheme launched in 2019 is the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.

Key features of the scheme:

Name: Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana

Launch Year: 2019

Benefits: Farmers get an annual payment of Rs 6,000

Payment structure: This amount is distributed in three installments of Rs 2,000, every four months, directly into the bank accounts of farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Impact:

Distribution: So far 17 installments have been released under this scheme.

Beneficiaries: About 9 crore farmers have benefited from it.

Can farmers who cultivate on others' land avail the benefits of the scheme?

A common question among farmers is whether those who do not own land but cultivate on others' land can avail the benefits of this scheme. The answer is no. The scheme provides benefits only to farmers who have land registered in their name. As a result, many farmers who cultivate on leased or rented land are not eligible for this financial assistance.

Recent developments:

Last month, PM Modi released the 17th installment of the Kisan Yojana from Varanasi. The initiative continues to support land-owning farmers by providing them with much-needed financial assistance, although it leaves out a significant section of farmers who work on leased land.
