The start of the new year brings great relief for farmers. 2026 is going to be very special for crores of farmers associated with the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana). This year, the government is preparing to release three consecutive installments under the PM Kisan Yojana. This means the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th installments will be directly credited to the farmers' bank accounts. However, the government has also made an important change to the rules, which could have serious consequences if ignored.

Now, a unique Farmer ID has been made mandatory to avail the benefits of the PM Kisan Yojana. The government has clearly stated that the upcoming installments of farmers who do not have a Farmer ID may be withheld. Therefore, if you also want to receive the next installment of the PM Kisan Yojana, this news is very important for you.

What is the PM Kisan Yojana?
The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana was launched by the central government in February 2019. This scheme aims to provide financial support to small and marginal farmers. Under the scheme, eligible farmers receive a total of Rs. 6000 per year, which is transferred directly to their bank accounts in three equal installments. This money is transferred through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) to prevent any irregularities.

Unique Farmer ID Mandatory
The government has made the unique Farmer ID mandatory in the PM Kisan Yojana. This is considered the digital identity of the farmer. It includes information about the farmer's land, the crops grown, fertilizer usage, data related to animal husbandry, and income-related information. The government's objective is to ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach only the genuine farmers and to prevent fraudulent registrations.

Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ramnath Thakur, has also clarified that Farmer ID has been made mandatory for new registrations in several states. This rule will be implemented across the entire country in the coming time.
Having a Farmer ID offers several benefits to farmers:

They receive the correct amount of subsidy for fertilizers and seeds.
Crop insurance claims become easier.
There is no need to submit documents repeatedly for different government schemes.
They will be able to avail themselves of the benefits of future schemes with a single ID. Documents Required for Farmer ID
To obtain a Farmer ID, farmers will need to provide some essential documents. The Aadhaar card is the most important. A mobile number linked to Aadhaar is also required. Land-related documents such as Khasra or Jamabandi are necessary. In addition, a ration card or family ID may also be requested. The government is also organizing camps at the panchayat level to make it easier for farmers to obtain their Farmer ID.

How to get a Farmer ID?
Farmers who wish to apply online can register on their state's AgriStack portal. eKYC needs to be completed through Aadhaar. After that, land information needs to be added, and family details need to be mapped. Once all the information is correct, the concerned department verifies it, and then a unique Farmer ID is issued. If a farmer owns land in different locations, it is necessary to add the details of all the land parcels to the same ID.

When will the 22nd installment of the PM Kisan scheme be released?
Now, the biggest question is when the next installment of PM Kisan will be released. It is believed that the 22nd installment of the PM Kisan scheme (PM Kisan 22nd Installment Date) may be released in February 2026. However, the government has not yet officially announced the date, but based on the pattern of installments being released every four months, February is considered the likely time.
