Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is one of the flagship welfare programs launched by the Government of India to provide direct income support to farmers. Designed to boost agricultural production and stabilize rural incomes, the scheme aims to meet the financial needs of farmers to purchase inputs, improve agricultural operations, and ensure dignified livelihoods. Under PM-KISAN, the central government disburses Rs 6,000 annually to eligible farmers in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 every four months. The amount is credited directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring transparency.

Since its launch in 2019, PM-KISAN has emerged as the world’s largest direct benefit transfer in terms of scale and reach. The scheme has already completed 19 installments. The most recent – the 19th installment – was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2025, benefiting over 9.8 crore farmers, including 2.4 crore women beneficiaries. Earlier, the 18th installment was released in October 2024, and the 17th in June 2024.

With the release of the 19th installment in February, the 20th installment is expected to be released in June 2025. While the exact release date and venue have not been officially announced, it is widely speculated that PM Modi will again preside over the distribution ceremony.
