To prevent fraud within the PM Kisan scheme and ensure that benefits reach only eligible farmers, the government has made the 'Farmer Registry'—or Unique Farmer ID—mandatory. This serves as a digital card designed to authenticate a farmer's identity. Currently, this system is being strictly implemented across 14 states nationwide, including Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. To avail of the benefits offered under the PM Kisan scheme, farmers are now required to obtain this specialized ID.

This Unique Farmer ID will function as a comprehensive digital identity for farmers, containing detailed records of their land holdings and crop-related information. Through this card, accessing government services—such as fertilizer subsidies, seed supplies, and crop insurance—will become significantly easier in the future. The ID will also incorporate data related to animal husbandry and fertilizer usage.

The process for obtaining the Unique Farmer ID has been deliberately kept simple to ensure that farmers in rural areas can adopt it with ease. Applicant farmers can apply for this ID online either through their respective state's 'AgriStack' portal or by visiting their nearest Agriculture Department office. To apply, they must possess an Aadhaar card, a mobile number linked to their Aadhaar, and valid land ownership documents.

The government has also tightened the eligibility criteria for the PM Kisan scheme more rigorously than ever before. Under the new regulations, farmers who have purchased land after February 1, 2019, are now ineligible to receive benefits under this scheme. Additionally, cases involving multiple members of the same family—such as a husband and wife, or a father and son—claiming separate installments are being subjected to scrutiny.

Before the release of the 23rd installment of the PM Kisan scheme, farmers are strongly advised to verify whether their names appear on the beneficiary list. Funds will be disbursed to them only if their names are included in this list. The beneficiary list can be accessed by visiting the official PM Kisan website, navigating to the 'Farmers' Corner' section, and selecting the relevant state and district. Furthermore, by utilizing the 'Know Your Status' option, farmers can ascertain whether payments for previous installments were successfully processed or if there are any issues affecting their bank accounts.

According to the PM Kisan scheme's operational calendar, financial assistance is provided to farmers at regular intervals of four months. Since the 22nd installment was disbursed in March, it is highly anticipated that the 23rd installment will be released sometime between June and July 2026. Should any farmer encounter technical difficulties while applying or updating their data, they can immediately seek assistance through the official helpline and portal established by the department.

The Central Government is currently working towards making agricultural schemes fully transparent through the use of technology. Under the new guidelines, if farmers fail to obtain their Unique Farmer ID within the stipulated timeframe, they risk forfeiting the financial assistance of ₹2,000. Therefore, all farmers are advised to complete their necessary paperwork well in advance of the scheduled date for the next installment.
