Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, the 21st installment has been sent to farmers in three major states (Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand). Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan released this amount ahead of schedule on Friday. Significantly, this money has been sent to farmers in states that have recently suffered significant losses due to floods and landslides. This time, the government has transferred a total of over ₹540 crore directly to the accounts of over 2.7 million farmers through banks, including approximately 2.7 million women farmers.
Punjab, Himachal, and Uttarakhand Receive Amount
Farmers in Punjab, Himachal, and Uttarakhand have received significant amounts. This time, ₹160.21 crore has been transferred to the accounts of 81,045 farmers in Himachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, 11,09,895 farmers in Punjab have received ₹221.98 crore, and ₹157.83 crore has been transferred to the accounts of 7,89,128 farmers in Uttarakhand. The Agriculture Minister stated that this amount will provide immediate assistance to farmers. He explained that this ₹2,000 installment will help farmers purchase essential household items, purchase seeds and fertilizers, and prepare for the next crop.
What is the PM Kisan Yojana?
Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, eligible farmers receive a ₹6,000 annual assistance. This amount is disbursed in three equal installments, meaning ₹2,000 is given every four months. The scheme aims to provide continuous financial support to farmers so they can adequately manage their farming and family expenses. To benefit from this scheme, farmers must be Indian citizens and own agricultural land. Furthermore, their Aadhaar number must be linked to their bank account, and eKYC must be completed. However, farmers who pay income tax, receive pensions, or work for government PSUs will not benefit from this scheme.
When will farmers in other states receive the money?
After the 21st installment was released in Himachal, Punjab, and Uttarakhand, it is now expected that farmers in other states will also receive this relief soon. The 21st installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme may reach the accounts of the remaining farmers in October. It is believed that the government will transfer this amount before Diwali, i.e., before October 21, 2025. This time, approximately 10 crore farmers will receive this installment of ₹2,000.
