PM Highlights Railway University: Here’s How to Get Admission
The country's first railway university has come into the spotlight following PM Modi's visit to Vadodara. Learn about the specialized courses—ranging from aviation to rail engineering—and the complete admission process via JEE Main.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi specifically highlighted the country's only railway university during a major event in Vadodara, Gujarat. He noted that Vadodara has now emerged as a major hub for infrastructure, transportation, and modern development in the country. Formerly known as the National Rail and Transportation Institute (NRTI), the institution has been expanded by the central government and granted the status of a Central University, now named Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya.
This is India's first and only university dedicated entirely to education in the transportation, logistics, and railway sectors. Following PM Modi's speech, curiosity about this university has surged among youth and students across the country. Everyone wants to know which courses are offered and what the admission process entails. Let us explore this in detail.
What courses are offered?
Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya offers courses in both engineering and management fields. Programs such as B.Tech, BBA, MBA, M.Tech, and PhD are available here. The B.Tech curriculum includes disciplines like Civil Engineering, while M.Tech offerings cover specialized areas such as Intelligent Transport Systems, Railway Engineering, Bridge and Tunnel Engineering, and Roads and Highway Engineering. MBA programs feature specialized courses like Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Multi-modal Transportation, Metro Rail Management, Aviation and Operations Management, and Digital Maritime.
What are the eligibility criteria for B.Tech admission?
To pursue a B.Tech degree at Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, a student must have passed Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics. Additionally, they must have studied at least one of the following subjects: Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or a technical vocational subject. For students belonging to the General category, a minimum of 75% marks or a position within the top 20 percentile in Class 12 is required, whereas the threshold is set at 65% for SC/ST students. Additionally, students must qualify for the JEE Main examination.
What is the admission process?
To secure admission to the B.Tech program, students must first appear for the JEE Main examination. Based on the rank obtained in this exam, students are required to participate in JoSAA or CSAB counseling. This involves registering on the JoSAA or CSAB portal and selecting Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya as a preferred choice. Subsequently, seats are allotted based on rank and category. Once a seat is allocated, students must upload their documents online and pay the admission and tuition fees. Finally, students are required to report to the Vadodara campus for physical document verification and orientation.
