If we talk about recent years, there has been a lot of development of roads in the country, the responsibility of which lies with the central government, the central government is uplifting those areas these days where development has been historically backward, especially in rural areas where there is a lack of basic amenities amid urban development.

If we talk about villages, many villages remain isolated due to a lack of paved roads, which is in stark contrast to the urban infrastructure where modernity thrives.

Recognizing this inequality, the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) was launched in 2000 to address the lack of infrastructure in rural areas. This initiative focuses on the construction of all-weather roads to connect villages, thereby increasing accessibility and socio-economic development.

Implementation of Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana

Planning and Identification: District Panchayats and state-level standing committees collaborate to identify priority roads based on connectivity needs and community feedback.

Detailed Project Reports (DPRs): Once roads are identified, detailed project reports are prepared. These reports contain details of technical specifications, estimated costs, and construction timelines.

Budget Allocation: The Ministry of Road Transport allocates funds to implement PMGSY projects. This financial support ensures that the planned roads are constructed on schedule.

Tendering and Construction: Government tenders are issued to selected contractors who build roads according to DPR specifications. This stage involves rigorous quality checks to ensure durability and safety.

Since its inception, PMGSY has facilitated the construction of 6,80,040 km of roads in rural India by 2021. The commitment to add an additional 25 thousand kilometers underlines the Government's continued efforts to bridge the urban-rural infrastructure gap and promote inclusive growth.
