This is the second major piece of good news for the country's farmers. While the 21st installment of the PM Kisan Yojana (PM Kisan 21st Installment) has been deposited into their accounts, the government has now decided on the crop insurance scheme (PM Fasal Bima Yojana) that farmers have been demanding for years. The biggest challenge for farmers is that if their hard-earned crops are suddenly destroyed by a wild animal attack or submerged in heavy rain and waterlogging, the farmer has to bear the entire loss. Now, the government has addressed this concern and provided significant relief.

Two Major Changes in Crop Insurance
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that two new risks have been added to the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).

First: Crop damage by wild animals.

Second: Crop damage due to excessive rain or waterlogging.

Both these risks will now be covered under the insurance scheme, and farmers will benefit from it starting in Kharif 2026.

According to the government, if an elephant, wild boar, nilgai, deer, or monkey damages a farmer's insured crop, the farmer can claim insurance. The farmer simply needs to enter the damage information along with a geo-tagged photo on the crop insurance app within 72 hours to expedite the insurance process.

Agriculture Minister's message to farmers: Don't delay, get your crop insured.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan wrote in a social media post, "Previously, losses caused by wild animals and waterlogging were not covered.

Now, full compensation will be provided for both losses. Thanks to the Prime Minister for accepting the farmers' demand."

He appealed to farmers to insure their crops as soon as possible, as the protection cover has now become stronger.

How will compensation be received? The government has simplified the entire process.

Previously, farmers could claim their crops for natural disasters, but losses caused by wild animals and waterlogging were not covered under the scheme. This was the reason why farmers cultivating crops near forests faced the most problems. Now, with the change in rules, such crops will also be covered under insurance, and farmers will receive their full benefits.

The government says that this decision will significantly alleviate the financial hardship of millions of farmers, as rain and wild animals cause significant crop damage every year. Whether the damage is caused by animals within the field or the field is flooded, the insurance company will compensate in both situations.

A decision with double benefits for farmers
On one hand, the 21st installment has been received, and on the other hand, the changes in crop insurance will also compensate farmers for losses they previously felt helpless about. This decision is a major relief, especially for those farmers who cultivate near forests or live in villages where crops are damaged every year due to rain and flooding.

The government claims that this will secure farmers' income and significantly reduce the risks of farming.
