In his first cabinet meeting the day after taking oath, he took an important decision to build 3 crore new houses under the PM Awas Yojana (PMAY). Eligible people in this scheme will be given houses by the government. Apart from this, not only houses will be given under PMAY, but they will also have basic amenities like toilets, electricity connection, LPG connection, and water supply. Initially, the home loan amount under PMAY ranged from ₹3 lahks to ₹6 lahks with subsidy, but it has been increased to ₹18 lakh.
