The central government has extended the deadline for submitting new applications under the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for textiles to March 31. The Ministry of Textiles stated that this extension has been granted in view of the significant response received since the application portal reopened in August 2025, with proposals submitted by textile companies in priority sectors, including man-made fiber (MMF) apparel, MMF fabrics, and technical textiles.

In October, the government had extended the last date for filing new applications under the PLI scheme for the textile sector to December 31, which has now been further extended to March of this year. The ministry said, "This decision underscores the growing confidence of investors in India's textile sector and aims to facilitate broader participation by providing eligible applicants with additional time."

The PLI scheme for the textile industry was notified on September 24, 2021, to promote the production of MMF apparel and fabrics, and technical textiles products in the country to enable the industry to achieve size and scale, become competitive, create employment opportunities, and build a viable enterprise.

Central and State Governments to Deliberate
Representatives from the central and state governments will deliberate next week on a coordinated national strategy to establish India as a global textile manufacturing hub.
The deliberations will take place at the National Conference of Textile Ministers to be held in Guwahati, Assam, on January 8-9, 2026.

The discussions at the National Conference of Textile Ministers in Guwahati on January 8-9 are in line with the national vision of developing a $350 billion textile industry and achieving a target of $100 billion in textile exports by 2030.

The conference will be held on the theme "India's Textile Industry: A Confluence of Growth, Heritage, and Innovation." The inaugural session on January 8 will be attended by Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh, along with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita.
