In light of the increasing crowds during the festive season, the Railways has suspended the sale of platform tickets at six major railway stations in Delhi. Find out which stations are affected.

With the month of November underway, major festivals like Diwali and Chhath are approaching. Railway stations are witnessing a significant surge in passenger numbers as many people head home to celebrate these festivals. Given this heavy influx of passengers, the sale of platform tickets has been halted at six key railway stations in Delhi.

This restriction will remain in effect from November 3 to November 14, 2026. The decision was taken to manage the growing crowds, as the festive period—specifically around Diwali and Chhath—often leads to extreme congestion, leaving no space to move on both trains and station platforms. Let’s look at which Delhi railway stations are subject to this suspension.

Restrictions at 6 Major Delhi Stations

The sale of platform tickets has been suspended from November 3 to November 14, 2026, at the following six major railway stations in Delhi:

New Delhi
Delhi Junction
Hazrat Nizamuddin
Ghaziabad
Anand Vihar Terminal
Anand Vihar Halt

Please note that platform tickets will not be available at these locations. This means you will not be able to purchase a platform ticket to see someone off or to receive someone at the station during this period. Importantly, the Railways has provided exemptions to certain categories of passengers.

Who Is Exempt?

The Railways has granted exemptions to specific individuals, including the elderly, the ill, and passengers with disabilities. Consequently, those accompanying these passengers to provide assistance will be permitted to enter the platform. Additionally, those accompanying individuals who are illiterate or female passengers requiring assistance are exempted from this rule.

Things to do before heading to the station

The Railways has taken this decision in light of the increasing number of passengers, with the aim of reducing overcrowding at the station. If you are planning to visit the railway station to drop off or pick up someone, please familiarize yourself with the rules regarding platform tickets beforehand. Even those who have been granted an exemption should visit the station only to the extent necessary to assist the passenger. If there is no urgent reason, it is best to avoid going to the station. Furthermore, ensure you check the train timings and the platform number in advance.
