Railway Platform Ticket Update: If you go to the railway station to see someone off, purchasing a platform ticket is mandatory. But do you know how long you are permitted to stay on the platform with this ticket?

Platform Ticket Rule: People often need to buy a platform ticket when visiting the railway station to pick up or see off friends and relatives; failing to do so can result in a fine. Therefore, if you visit the station and purchase a platform ticket, it is important to be aware of the associated rules to avoid penalties.

Platform tickets are valid for a limited time only

Purchasing a platform ticket does not allow you to stay on the platform all day. Once purchased, the ticket is valid for only two hours. Staying beyond this period may result in a fine; you could be charged a penalty of ₹500 after the two-hour limit expires.

Platform tickets can also be purchased at the counter

You can buy a platform ticket by visiting the ticket counter at the railway station. Alternatively, if you prefer not to use the counter, you can generate the ticket yourself using the Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) installed at the station.

Platform tickets can also be booked online

To do this, first visit the RailOne app and log in using your mobile number.
Select the 'Platform Ticket' option.
Choose whether you are currently at the station or outside it.
Enter the station name and the number of passengers.
Complete the payment online.
You can easily access the ticket in the 'My Bookings' section of the app.

Important facts about platform tickets

Please note that this ticket is intended solely for accessing the platform to see off a passenger. You cannot travel on a train using this ticket; a separate, valid ticket is required for train travel. Traveling on a train with only a platform ticket can lead to punitive action.
